Danville, KY - After a dominating 19-3 win to open the 2026 season, Centre Women's Lacrosse looked for two straight as Oberlin came to town on Saturday afternoon. The result was not meant to be as a 7-goal second quarter from the Yeowomen powered them past the Colonels, 11-3.
Oberlin took advantage of a man-up situation just 1:34 into the game with a goal after a
Mary Sterling Anderton green card to take the early lead. From there, each team tightened up its defenses in the quarter with each keeper seeing limited shots on target. Centre was finally able to break through with just over 2 minutes to play in the first as
Olivia Sweasy buried a pass home from
Sophia Richardson to knot the game at 1 after 1.
The second quarter started with a flurry of Oberlin attacks on the Centre goal. The Yeowomen put 3 on the board in the first 3:12 of the quarter to break the game open. Centre got one back with 10:57 left as
Audrey Haines fired a shot home off an assist from
Chrissy Krncevic to get back within 2. From there, Oberlin controlled much of the possession and all of the scoreboard. OC answered with 4 more goals to close out the half with an 8-2 lead.
The momentum carried into the 3rd as Oberlin needed less than 90 seconds to add another goal for a 9-2 lead. Centre's offense was stymied by the fast, physical Oberlin defense and was only able to manage 2 shots on goal in the quarter. Oberlin tallied a late 3rd quarter goal to take a 10-2 edge to the 4th.
The Colonels got a late goal from
Gracie Garner in the 4th for the final result.
Centre stays home next week for a 3rd straight Saturday matinee as John Carroll University comes to Danville for a matchup starting at 11:00am.
