DANVILLE, Ky. - Alumni Gym played host to an entertaining game between Centre men's basketball and Berry as the Colonels avenged last month's close loss with an 82-77 victory over the Vikings.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Both teams played well in the early minutes as Centre crashed the offensive glass to keep up with the hot shooting Vikings. Eight of Centre's first ten points came on second chances as a putback by
Landen Hamilton produced an early 10-10 tie.
- The next several minutes belonged to Berry, with the Vikings outscoring Centre 13-5 over a five-minute stretch to take their largest lead of the night at 23-15.
- Centre slowly chipped away at the Berry lead, first from the free throw line and then from the bench as
Hunter Coleman and
Ryan Shene had consecutive scores to cut the margin to 28-26. A runout and three-point play from
Kalib Thomas capped off a 14-5 run to put Centre back on top by one.
- From there, the two teams traded blows and the lead as neither team could go up by more than three for the rest of the half. A three-pointer by
Nolan Wahl in the closing seconds gave the Colonels a 43-42 lead at the break.
- The second half picked up where the first half left off, with the Colonels and Vikings continuing to go back and forth. Centre's junior guards contributed a 7-0 run as Thomas and Hamilton helped bring the Colonels to a 54-49 lead. After Berry tied the score,
Graham Krezmien spotted up from long range to put the Colonels back on top.
- Centre continued to hold the Vikings at bay as
Drake Ingram scored 12 consecutive Centre points, the last one giving the Colonels a 69-63 lead with six minutes left. Three minutes later, Hamilton scored inside to give Centre its largest lead of the game at 75-68.
- Twice in the final minute, Berry cut the Centre lead to two points, but each time, Wahl converted both of his attempts at the line to help the Colonels ice the game.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Ingram led the Colonels with a game high 19 points, followed by 18 each from Hamilton and Wahl, and a dozen from Thomas.
