Danville, KY – Centre makes it look easy in their midweek game against North Central with a 15-6 win over the Cardinals.
Colonels controlled the game early in the period, taking a lead early with a goal from
Ben Hubbs off an Assist from
Nick Witcher to make it 1-0.
North Central responded midway through the period when Wyatt Hunt finished a pass from Kerkow to tie the game 1-1. However, it did not take long for Centre to regain the lead as
Graysen Jolly set up a goal for
Ryan Black to find the back of the net.
With a penalty on the Cardinals, Centre capitalized on the extra man opportunity, Hubbs scoring his second goal of the period off an assist from
Ryan Black, extending the lead to 3-1. The Cardinals were able to limit the damage thanks to goalie Beck Hagen, who made several saves to keep the game within reach.
Colonels came out with a continuation of momentum with a goal from
Thomas Tyack, followed by another goal from
Ryan Black a minute later.
Cardinals did not take long to respond, as they responded midway through with another goal from Kerkow off an assist from Chase Odom, cutting the deficit 5-2. Centre followed up with goals from
Sims Anderson and
Miller Mouser to push the lead back out.
North Central made some adjustments by changing their goalie to have a better chance at preventing Colonel goals. Wyatt Hunt also added a goal to the score to help slow Centre down.
The Cardinals made attempts at the goal, but several missed shots caused the energy to shift as Centre closed the period with another Hubbs goal off an assist from
Nico Valentino.
Coming out of the half, North Central started with a strong possession as they managed to find the back of the net early on with another Hunt goal. However, it did not take long for Centre to regain momentum as
Ryan Black found the net off an assist from
Graysen Jolly. Black continued this strong performance as he added two more goals midway through, completing a hat trick during the period and extending the colonels' lead.
The Colonels weren't finished just yet, as
Nick Witcher was able to score off an assist from Hubbs to make it 12-4, leading into the final period.
Fourth period opened with the Cardinals scoring early with a goal from Seth Rosen off an assist from Will Sanchez. Centre immediately answered with a goal by
Jack Cunningham, assisted by Bryant brown as he later assisted another goal for the Colonels, scored by
Sims Anderson, which led to Brown finding the net himself shortly after.
North Central was able to score one more goal from Kerkow, but Centre was able to maintain a strong pressure on both sides of the field, finishing out with a 15-6 victory,
Centre Colonels will hit the road this weekend as they face their first conference opponent at Sewanee on Sunday.
