Sewanee, TN – Centre off to a rough start for conference play as they fall to Sewanee 12-5
The first period proved to be a struggle for the Colonels, as Sewanee started strong with an early goal from Manoli Loupassi to get the Tigers going. It didn't take long for another goal to get through, putting the Tigers ahead 2-0.
Midway through, Centre tried to create an offensive pressure, but struggled to find the net as shots missed their mark or were saved by tigers goalie Charles Moran. The continuation of offensive pressure by Sewanee allowed them to close the first period up 6-0 and carry momentum on their side.
Colonel
Owen Techet opened the second period with a penalty, giving the Tigers a man-up opportunity, which they were quick to capitalize on as Will Kennedy scored off an assist by Robert Freeman.
Both teams traded shots on goal and turnovers until
Ryan Black broke through and managed to find the net to give Centre their first goal of the game. This offensive momentum continued for the colonels as
Ryan Black continued to strike the net with two more goals to put Centre back into it.
Sewanee was able to respond late in the period with a goal from Henry Westfall. Both teams made several shot attempts, but goalies did their job, and the score heading into halftime was the Tigers up 8-3.
Out of the half, Colonels get to work early as
Ryan Black scores his fourth goal of the game. As time ticks by, both teams have a back-and-forth for shots on goal; no one manages to get one in until midway through, when Tiger Hank Walsh finds the back of the net.
It doesn't take long afterwards for Loupassi to score, giving the Tigers a cushion lead of 10-4 to close out the third.
The Colonels are down to their final period, looking to create chances to come back, as they start the period with shots, but Flynn Bowman puts a stop to Centre's offensive pressure with double saves.
Sewane continues to put pressure on as Westfall scores, with the Tigers not stopping there, having a line of shots before Jake Greene can get one in on another man-up opportunity, as
Owen Techet gets his second penalty of the period midway through.
The Colonels manage to get one last goal in by Benn Hubbs, but ultimately Sewanee's strong Offensive pressure is too much as they fall to the Tigers 12-5.
