Georgetown, TX – Colonels were back at it in conference play, as they took the win against Southwestern 9-5.
In the opening period, it had a slow start for scoring as both teams traded shots, but no one was able to find the back of the net until midway through, when
Ryan Black got one in to put Centre on the board first.
Colonel's offense didn't let up as
Nico Valentino scored and gave an assist for
Thomas Tyack to go up 3-0. The Pirates answered with a goal of their own late as John Swandal scored to close out scoring for the period.
The second period featured another exchange of shots on goal as both teams struggled to get one through. Southwestern's Keaten Cox was able to find the net off an assist from Matthew Swandal to put the Pirates within striking distance.
Centre was able to convert minutes later, on a Pirates penalty as
Ben Hubbs scored off an assist from
Ryan Black to put the Colonels back ahead by two.
Both teams continued to trade shots. Late in the quarter, Jackson Strauser was able to close the gap, with a score of 4-3 heading into halftime.
Southwestern came out of the half with a goal, tying the game at 4-4. It took some missed shots on both sides before
Graysen Jolly was able to score off an assist by
Ben Hubbs to put the Colonels back in the lead.
Colonels were able to continue this offensive pressure as
Nick Witcher scored, and
Ben Hubbs was able to close the quarter with another goal off an assist from
Ryan Black to extend the lead to 7-4.
Last quarter was a battle as both goalies were slow to slow down the offense with saves on both sides. It was not until midway through that southwestern Jackson Strauser was able to find the net.
Centre was able to close the game with two goals coming from
Graysen Jolly off an assist by Witcher and
Miguel Sayers off an assist by
Eli Carberry to give the Colonels a 9-5 win over the Pirates.
The Colonels will be back at home to play Oberlin on March 24
th at 4 pm.
