Danville, KY - Before the final home match of the season, Centre Women's Tennis celebrated the careers of
Kayla Harger,
Kennedy Herring,
Skylar Keesee,
Sophie Maddux,
Carlie Mitchell and
Grace Williams. All played a role in the day as the Colonels nearly pulled out a win but came up just short against Southwestern, 4-3.
In #2 doubles,
Kayla Harger and
Kennedy Herring dominated for a 6-2 win.
Skylar Keesee and
Sophie Maddux fell short in 3rd doubles, 3-6. The focus then turned to #1 doubles where
Carlie Mitchell and
Grace Williams were locked in a tight matchup. The match needed a tiebreak, but the Pirates won it 7-3 to take the overall team point.
In singles,
Grace Williams bounced back in #1 singles to rally for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.
Kennedy Herring fell in 2 tight sets, 5-7, 4-6 in 2nd singles.
Carlie Mitchell came up short in #3 singles, 4-6, 1-6.
Carrie Foster followed the lead of Williams in 4th singles. After dropping the opener, Foster rallied for a dominant 6-1, 6-1 finish in the final 2 sets for the victory.
Shelby Franklin also went the distance in #5 singles but lost 3-6 in the 3rd.
Sara Dunn won in 6th singles, 6-1, in the 3rd set.
The Colonels now focus on a critical 4-match road trip to close the regular season. First up is a trip to Millsaps on Saturday.
