Danville, Ky. - Centre Men's Soccer kicked off the 2026 campaign with a home fixture against Georgetown College on Tuesday night. The Colonels had their fair share of chances in the game but could not find the stroke of luck in a 1-0 defeat.
Centre had the first chances on goal early in the game. Shots from
Ryan O'Hara and
Ethan Cajuste both just missed high in the 8th and 10th minutes, respectively. Georgetown took advantage in the 13th minute. An initial shot was stopped by Centre keeper,
Declan Miller, but the rebound found its way to another Tiger, who tucked the ball home to give Georgetown a 1-0 lead. Newcomer
Nico Voight had one of Centre's best chances of the night come in the 18th minute. A cross into the box found Voight just inside the 6-yard line, but the touch sailed just over the bar, keeping the Colonels from the equalizer.
Jacob Tyler was the next who nearly had a tally in the 24th minute, but a leaping save from Georgetown's keeper kept the Tigers ahead. The Colonels took 8 more shots to finish the half. While only 3 were on target, the Colonels kept showing they could create chances. Alas, Georgetown kept the 1-0 lead going to halftime.
The second half saw many more changes of possession with neither side able to garner much consistency in its respective attacks.
Declan Miller made a key save in the 54th minute to keep his team within 1. With Georgetown tightening defensively, Centre's first shot of the half did not arrive until the 72nd minute.
Jafet Figueroa was denied from the 18-yard line. Miller made 2 more saves to keep his team in it.
Chandler Hamilton had one final run in the waning seconds. He went down in the Georgetown box off slight contact from a defender. All in gold and white were looking for a penalty, but it was not to be as Georgetown held on for the 1-0 win.
In total, Centre doubled up Georgetown in shots, 20-10, but the Tigers held a 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
Declan Miller had a strong 5-save performance but took the defeat.
The Colonels next head to Louisville this weekend to play in the JR Hoe Invitational hosted by Spalding. Centre takes on Berea on Friday starting at 5:30pm.
