Danville, Ky - Centre faced off against Ohio Wesleyan for their second match up of the weekend, the Colonels fell 0-5.
The opened with Ohio wesleyan applying offensive pressure forcing goalkeeper Eliza Hensely to make two save in the opening three minutes to keep the lead at 0-0. it was not until Ohio Wesleyan Reagn Shifflett broke through, to score the game's openng goal.
Centre continued to face pressure as Ohio Wesleyan recorded additional shots, with Hensley making two more saves before the end of the period. The Colonels entered the first intermission trailing 1-0.
Second period got off to a defensive front by the Colonels as thehy continued to compete hard against Ohio Wesleyan, creating opportunities while battling to keep the Bishops off the scoreboard.
Ohio Wesleyan added two goals early and late in the period, but Centre goalkeeper Eliza Hensley continued to keep the Colonels within reach with several strong saves. Hensley stopped shots from Emma Reynolds, Ava Zimmer and Grace Ammon, helping Centre weather Ohio Wesleyan's offensive pressure.
The Colonels also generated an opportunity of their own when Olivia Vonderheide put a shot on goal at 18:38, but Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper Payton Mindel made the save.
Centre continued to battle defensively throughout the remainder of the period, with Hensley making multiple saves to keep the Colonels within striking distance. Centre entered halftime trailing 3-0, with 30 minutes still remaining to mount a comeback.
Out of the half, Centre came out strong with an offensive pressure, creating several scoring opportunities against Ohio Wesleyan.
After Ohio Wesleyan opened the period with a pair of shots, the Colonels responded with a strong offensive sequence, leading to a penalty corner at 33:11, followed by back-to-back shots from Taylor Fuqua and Olivia Vonderheide, both of which were saved. Ashley Hamilton then hit the post before forcing another save from the Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper.
Offensive pressure countinued from teh colonels as they continued to generate chances, with Fuqua adding another shot that was blocked as the Colonels maintained pressure in the offensive end.
Ohio Wesleyan eventually extended its lead at 41:03, but Eliza Hensley continued to battle in goal, making multiple saves throughout the period. Centre entered the final period trailing 4-0, having shown increased offensive pressure and several promising scoring opportunities in the third.
The Colonels generated three shots to start the fourth, including attempts from Jen Taylor, Rylee Carothers and Taylor Fuqua. Taylor's shot was saved by Ohio Wesleyan goalkeeper Elizabeth Aguirre, while Carothers' attempt was blocked before Fuqua forced another save.
Eliza Hensley remained strong in goal for the Colonels, making saves on multiple Ohio Wesleyan attempts throughout the final period.
Ohio Wesleyan added its fifth goal at 56:24, but Centre continued to battle through the final minutes. The Colonels finished the contest with several offensive chances and continued to compete until the final whistle.
The Colonels are back at it with a match up against Transylvania on September 24th at 7pm at Andy Frye Stadium.
