Box Score DANVILLE, Ky. – Saturday night's Southern Athletic Association showdown between Centre and 17th-ranked Berry lived up to its billing as a battle of heavyweights, but the visiting Vikings escaped Farris Stadium with a narrow 38-35 overtime victory.
Centre falls to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the SAA, while Berry improves to 4-0 (2-0) with its third consecutive victory against the Colonels.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Centre faced an early two-score deficit, as Berry followed a three-play touchdown drive to open the game with a defensive TD on a fumble recovery on the ensuing Colonel possession.
- The Colonels clawed back into the game and got on the board later in the first quarter on
Colin Burnam's rushing touchdown, and later tied the game on
Tanner Young's 22-yard TD pass to
Jordan Gunter.
- Joey Connors punched in a one-yard score right before the half, giving Berry a 21-14 lead at the break.

Trevor Carnell capped off a third-quarter drive with a rushing score, again tying the game, and Centre took its first lead as the rain poured when David Kannapell caught a Young touchdown pass.
- Connors hit pay dirt again and Mason Kinsey later hauled in a TD for Berry with just 2:41 left in regulation to give the Vikings a seven-point advantage.
- Working against the clock, Young and the Centre offense marched down the field until facing a 4th-and-10 from the opponent's 20-yard line. Young found
Jaylon Hibbs, who accounted for almost 60 receiving yards on the drive, for the clutch touchdown.
- A
Ryan Smith sack on Berry's final possession in regulation squashed any late scoring chances for Berry.
- Overtime was decided in the kicking game, where Berry's Trey Gregory hit what became the game-winner.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Colonels out-gained the Vikings in total yardage by a 473 to 349 margin, averaging seven yards per play, but four turnovers plagued the offense.
- Hibbs reached 100+ receiving yards for the fourth time in as many games this season, catching six balls for 104 yards and a score.
- On defense,
Tommy Kaczocha led all individuals with 11 total tackles, followed by
Andrew Busby with nine.
