DESTIN, Fla. - The second round of the Golfweek October Classic is in the books from Sandestin Resort and day 2 of competition saw improvement from Centre women's golf as they moved up on the leaderboard to 16th place.
The Colonels, who were tied for 18th after Sunday's session, shot a combined team score of 318 on Monday, good for a nine-shot improvement to move up two spots on the leaderboard. Centre sits ten shots back of Gustavus Adolphus and three shots ahead of both Wisconsin-Whitewater and LeTourneau.
Individually, the low score of the day for Centre belonged to
Janie Morgan. Morgan had the biggest improvement between rounds for the Colonels as she finished eight shots better than yesterday's total for a score of 77. In doing so, Morgan vaulted 22 spots up the individual leaderboard.
First-year
Yelena Williams remains the low scorer of the tournament for the Colonels after posting a score of 78 on Monday. Williams has a 36-hole score of 155 through the first two days of play to sit in a tie for 35th place overall.
Nithya Nunna posted a score of 81 on Monday, while
Grace Vernon shot a round of 82. Those rounds were improvements from their Sunday totals by a respective five and six strokes and each made a birdie on the back nine, Nunna on the par 3 3rd hole and Vernon following on the par 4 4th.
Rookie
Ceci Coccia rounded out Centre's Monday totals with a score of 84 and she sits one shot back of Morgan overall for the tournament with a two-day total of 163.
The Golfweek October Classic will wrap up on Tuesday.
