DANVILLE, Ky.- The Colonels returned to South Turf to host Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the second game of their 2025 opening weekend. After a full, four-quarter battle, the Colonels suffered a close 13-10 loss to the Blugolds.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Blugolds favored in the opening frame, going up 3-1 on the Colonels.
Haley Rice offered Centre their first goal of the contest during a woman-up opportunity seven minutes in.
- The momentum tilted in the Gold & White's direction as Centre battled back to come within one.
Ellie Macdonald started the period for Centre, answering the Blugolds' initial point with a woman-down goal. Wisconsin-Eau Claire netted a second before
Catherine Zeek and Rice tallied a pair successively. Rice later closed the half with her third goal of the game, claiming the hat-trick and setting the score at 6-5 entering halftime.
- Out of the break, Wisconsin-Eau Claire created distance, starting with an unassisted goal and closing with four unanswered ones.
Sophia Richardson and Rice notched two for the Colonels in between, bringing the score to 11-7 entering the final period.
- The fourth quarter was the closest yet. Macdonald started the period during a power play with the assist from Zeek. Zeek followed with her own goal to come within two. The Blugolds sandwiched the Colonels' final goal which was delivered by
Olivia Sweasy. When regulation ran out, the score read Wisconsin-Eau Claire 13, Centre ten.
