MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Centre softball closed the Huntingdon Round Robin contest with two setbacks in the form of a 8-4 loss to Greensboro College and a 10-2 defeat by Huntingdon College.
GAME ONE: Greensboro 8, Centre 4
-
Madeline Lay notched Centre's first hit of the day, which was the first in her collegiate career, in the first inning with a single to right field.
- The Pride notched five runs in the bottom of the third. All but one run was unearned in that scoring streak.
- In the fourth inning the Colonels scored the first run of the 2025 season.
Jada Challiss, after a fly out from the lead off batter, hit a single to short and then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from
Kira Mashburn. Challiss then stole third which set her up to score on an RBI single from
Aleiah Branin.
- Greensboro added three more runs over the fifth and sixth innings to build the lead to 8-1.
- The best inning for the Centre team so far in the season was the bottom of the seventh.
Rylee Sandifer opened the frame with a single to right field.
Madalyn Irwin followed that up with a single of her own and then both runners moved into scoring position via a passed ball.
Izzy Rushing walked to load the bases before
Sarah Bradley hit an RBI single to score Sandifer. An error followed that brought Irwin home and then a sacrifice fly scored Bradley.
- The final inning heroics were not enough as the Pride claimed the 8-4 win.
- Freshman
Madison Mullender got the pitching start and took the loss after two and two thirds innings in the circle. She struck out two batters and allowed four earned runs.
-
Layne Ogle closed out the final four and one third innings for the Colonels and struck out four Greensboro batters and allowed three earned runs.
GAME TWO: Huntingdon 10, Centre 2
- Centre got things rolling early as a bases loaded walk in the first inning scored the first run of the game for the Colonels. The bases were loaded by a Sandifer single, a hit by pitch, and a walk.
- Another run came across for Centre in the opening frame. Sandifer scored on an error by the short stop on a
Kennedy Caudill fielder's choice.
- The bad news for the Colonels was that the bats went cold shortly after that. The final hits for Centre came when Sandifer singled to third base in the top of the second inning and
Morgan Tabor, as well as
Caroline Unruh, earned singles in the top of the third.
- Huntingdon put together 10 runs in the contest, with at least one score coming in all but one frame.
-
Kennedy Caudill was the starter in the circle for the Colonels and played the full five and two thirds as the pitcher of note.
