DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre women's tennis earned a big win over Bluegrass State foe Transylvania with a 6-1 drubbing of the visiting of the visiting Pioneers on Saturday morning.
Division III schools are playing the 2024-25 season under the 7-point dual match format. The ITA and the NCAA announced the one-year, joint pilot of the scoring format in July of 2024.
Singles action was a clean sweep for the Colonels.
Grace Williams kept her winning streak alive with her third singles win of the year coming via a 6-3, 6-3 scoreline over Katherine Taylor. It was the first top-slot match for Williams this season.
Kennedy Herring, in the second-seeded match, earned her first solo win of the spring with a 7-6, 6-2 decision over Paulina Razo-Zapata.
Natalie Black played her first single match of the year and impressed with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Maria Hayes in the no. 3 match.
Kayla Harger got her first singles win of the 2025 season in a fourth-seeded match that went to three sets. She won 6-2, 4-6, 10-4 against Ellie Held.
Carrie Foster finished the day a perfect 2-0 in the fifth slot this year thanks to a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Maddy Williams.
Sara Dunn is also undefeated in her no. 6 slot with a 6-2, 6-4 showing over Eva Clark moving her to 2-0 on the year.
The Centre team only had one duo that picked up a win. The no. 2 pairing of Harger and Black won 6-1 over Razo-Zapata and Lily Hartman.
Transy earned the doubles point as Williams and Herring fell 6-4 to Hayes and Taylor in the top slot and
Skylar Keesee and
Gigi Gossett were setback 6-4 to Williams and Held in the no. 3 doubles match.
WRAPPING UP
The Colonels finish the four-match home stand tomorrow with a match against Georgetown. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sunday.
