DANVILLE, Ky.- After one day of rest, the Colonels returned to South Turf to host Piedmont in a mid-morning clash. Leading from the initial frame, the Centre women's lacrosse stretched their win streak to two.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lions registered the game's opening shot but Centre rebuked with a trio of unanswered goals. The first goal being a woman-up free-position from
Olivia Sweasy, the second
Catherine Zeek with the assist from
Audrey Haines, and the third from
Haley Rice with the helper from
Addie Lewis. The Lions placed a goal in the final 14 seconds of the period to bring the score to Centre three, Piedmont two entering the second period.
- The second period saw four additional goals from the Colonels, the Lions placing one. Lewis joined the scoring column while Zeek, Sweasy, and Rice together went 3-3 with their free-position attempts. Entering halftime, the home team led 7-3.
- The Colonels continued to dominate in the second half. In both the third and fourth periods, Centre outscored Piedmont 2-1. By the end of the game,
Gracie Garner and
Sophia Richardson found the back of the net. When regulation ran out, the Colonels came out victorious, winning by a score of 11-5.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Zeek and Rice led the game with three goals each.
- Richardson led the game in groundballs with six.
Carter David followed just after with five.
- In the crease,
Mary Haley matched her career high in saves with 14.
- The two teams were statistically very similar, each taking 27 shots.
- Piedmont favored off the circle with 11 possessions versus Centre's six.
- The Colonels favored in ground balls 25-21.
