ORLANDO, Fla. - The Centre College women's tennis team opened spring break with a trip to the USTA National Campus where the squad was setback 6-1 to Pacific (Ore.) on Sunday afternoon.
The record for the Colonels slipped to 5-3 while the Boxers improved to 8-3.
Centre's point came from doubles play.
Natalie Black and
Kennedy Herring moved to an even 3-3 as a duo this season with a 6-4 win versus Cassidy Binder and Chloe Takahashi in the top slot.
Grace Williams and
Carlie Mitchell, an undefeated 6-0 together this season, won the no. 2 match 6-2 over Tiara Yeung and Sofia Mazzola.
Skylar Keesee and
Sophie Maddux fell in the third-ranked doubles match 6-2 to Mia Yamaguchi and Valentina Casab-Klescova.
In singles play, three Colonels won at least one game each. Williams took Takahashi to a third set in the second match before falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Herring earned a win in the first set of the no. 3 ranked match, but lost 6-4, 2-6, 3-6 to Casab-Klescova.
Carrie Foster was the other member of the Gold & White who won a set. She earned a second set win in a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 win for Yeung in the no. 5 match.
Mitchell was the no. 1 for Centre and fell 6-0, 6-2 to Binder. Black fell 6-1, 6-3 to Mazzola in the fourth-seeded match.
Sara Dunn closed out the action as the no. 6 seed with a 6-1, 6-2 setback to Yamaguchi.
WRAPPING UP
Spring break continues with two more matches lined up at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The Colonels face George Fox on Monday at 8 a.m. and Luther on Wednesday at 11:30 a.m.
