ORLANDO, Fla. - Spring break in Florida for Centre College women's tennis wrapped up on Wednesday afternoon with a 5-2 setback to Luther College at the USTA National Campus.
The Gold & White record sat at 5-5 after the Sunshine State trip while the Norse improved to 11-5.
Yet again it was singles action that scored the points for the Colonel effort.
Make it two wins in a row for
Grace Williams in the no. 2 position as she Montserrat Ramirez by a tally of 6-4, 6-3. It was a second-straight win for
Carrie Foster as well. Foster moved to the no. 4 match and won 6-4, 6-2 over Rafaela Queiroga Tavares.
Two tiebreakers were needed in the solo portion of the match.
Natalie Black and Riley O'Donnell went to three sets in the third-ranked match and O'Donnell came out on top 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-5).
Sara Dunn found herself on the wrong side of the other tiebreaker as Allie Christensen won that no. 5 match 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3).
The second-seeded match saw Lena Lichau best
Kennedy Herring fell 6-1, 6-0 and Luther also took the no. 6 match, which was
Jaina Burkett versus Julia Moreno, 6-3, 6-4.
One win in singles play came for the Centre squad. Foster and
Kayla Harger were paired up for the second time this season and won the no. 2 singles match 6-4 over Lichau and Abby Struble.
Black and Herring fell in the top doubles match 6-4, while Burkett and
Skylar Keesee were tripped up by O'Donnell and Ramirez 6-1 in the bottom pairs contest.
WRAPPING UP
The upcoming weekend brings the start of Southern Athletic Association play for the 2025 season. The Colonels host Hendrix on Saturday, March 29 at 9 a.m. and then welcome Rhodes in the following day at 9 a.m.
