DANVILLE, Ky. - The friendly confines of the Centre College tennis courts were kind to the women's tennis team as they defeated Hendrix to start the 2025 Southern Athletic Association (SAA) season with a 6-1 win.
The Colonels improved to 6-5 on the season and 1-0 in the SAA with the win. The Warriors fell to 4-8 and 0-2 in the SAA.
Centre swept the doubles contests in an impressive showing.
Kennedy Herring and
Natalie Black won 6-4 over Caroline Lasley and Emma Self in the no. 1 contest.
Grace Williams and
Carlie Mitchell improved to 8-0 together on the year with a 6-1 drubbing of Ayden Huckelbury and Kate Adcox in the second-seeded match.
Carrie Foster and
Kayla Harger won their second-straight match with a 6-3 win over Josie Leffingwell and Taylor Harbin.
The impressive play continued into singles action as the Colonels won all but one of those contests.
Williams won her third-consecutive single match with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Self in the top-ranked match. Herring got back on the right side of the win column with a 6-2, 6-0 decision over Leffingwell in the no. 3 match. Foster shined in the no. 5 slot as she won 6-1, 6-0 over Adcox to move to 7-2 on the year in that lineup spot.
Sara Dunn earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over Harbin in the sixth-seeded match.
Two matches were decided by retirement. Black was up 5-1 over Huckelbury in no. 4 singles when the Warrior retired. The lone Hendrix singles when came when
Carlie Mitchell retired in the second-ranked match to Lasley.

SAA action moves on tomorrow, Sunday, March 30, with a tilt with Rhodes. That match is set to begin at 9 a.m.
