DANVILLE, Ky. – It was a tough start for the Centre softball as Southern Athletic Association (SAA) play for 2025 started with two losses to no. 19 Berry College, both coming by identical 8-0 scores.
GAME ONE: Berry 8, Centre 0
- The first three innings came and went for both teams with no runs scored. Centre earned the team's first hit of the contest in the bottom of the second with a double from Morgan Tabor.
- Bad news came for the Gold & White in the fourth inning. A Berry onslaught of scoring that, included two home runs, put 8 on the board for the visiting team.
- Emily Lammers hit a single in the bottom of the fourth in an attempt to make a comment, but two were left stranded. The Vikings lead triggered the run-rule and closed the game out in the fifth inning.
- Kennedy Caudill struck out four in her four complete innings as the starting pitcher for Centre. Katherine Weller came in for the final inning for the Colonels.
GAME TWO: Berry 8, Centre 0
- Unlike the first game, the Colonels fell behind quickly as Berry delivered five runs on five hits and a walk, with four of them coming with two outs.
- The Vikings added to the lead in the second as a two-run homer gave Berry a 7-0 advantage.
- Centre looked to threaten in the bottom of the second. Tabor led off with a double and Ashley Howard singled to give the Colonels runners on the corners with one out, but Centre failed to get the runners across and it stayed a 7-0 ballgame.
- Berry added one more in the third on a sacrifice fly and Madison Mullender came on in relief and kept the Vikings off the board for the rest of the game, but the Colonels could manage just one more hit, courtesy of Madeline Lay.
