DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball wrapped up the squad's first Southern Athletic Association (SAA) series of 2025 with a 6-2 setback to no. 19 Berry College.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Vikings scored the first run of the game in the opening frame then tacked one more in each of the next two innings.
- Clean fielding came up clutch for the Colonels in the top of the third. With the bases loaded the Gold & White turned a double play to put the batter out as well as the runner on third.
- Berry added another run in the top of the fourth, but when the frame turned Centre saw a brief flash of life on offense.
Aleiah Branin put a ball into play to the pitcher to earn the first hit of the contest for the Colonels.
Kira Mashburn and
Morgan Tabor both walked in the frame, but no runners came home.
- Two Centre runners found their way on base in the bottom of the fifth.
Caroline Unruh walked to start the inning and
Cheney Floyd hit a single down the left field line immediately after, but they were left stranded.
- A home run scored for Berry in the sixth inning to increase the visitor's lead to 5-0.
- In the bottom of the sixth, a fielding error by the Vikings and back-to-back walks loaded the bases for the Colonels. Floyd was next and hit a two RBI double to left center to cut the lead to 5-2.
- Berry tacked on another run to set the score at what would end up being the final tally of 6-2.
-
Kennedy Caudill started in the circle for Centre and went three and one thirds innings.
