CONWAY, Ark. – Centre softball fell in two Southern Athletic Association (SAA) games to Hendrix on a Sunday that saw a rally in the second game come just short.
GAME ONE: Hendrix 11, Centre 4
-
Kira Mashburn notched the first hit of the game in the first inning with a bunt.
Morgan Tabor added the next hit of the frame with a single, but both runners ended the first stranded.
- The Warriors used a single and a fielder's choice play to go up 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
- In the top of the fifth, the Colonels scored another run. With two outs on the board,
Kennedy Caudill hit a double to right field.
Aleiah Branin was next and hit a double to center field that scored Caudill.
- Hendrix answered back in the next frame with three runs to extend the lead to 6-1 for the home team.
- Centre's bats came alive in the sixth inning with back-to-back home runs. Tabor hit a two-RBI homer after
Madeline Lay walked to start the inning.
Emily Lammers was next and hit a solo home run to cut the lead to 6-4.
- Unfortunately, the bottom of that frame would do the Colonels in. The Warriors tacked on five runs in the inning to make the score 11-4, which held the rest of the way.
- The visiting team outhit Hendrix 8-7. Mashburn and Tabor led the Centre effort with two hits each.
- Caudill got the start in the circle and struck out three batters over five and two thirds innings of work.
Katherine Weller pitched the final third of an inning of the contest.

- After falling behind by one in the first inning, the Gold & White got to work. Lammers found herself on base in the top of the second via getting hit by a pitch and then came across home thanks to an

- Shortly after the bases were loaded and Mashburn took advantage. The freshman hit a single that scored two for Centre. In the next at bat another runner scored. A Branin single sent runners in motion and a throwing error at second allowed another Colonel to score.
- Hendrix tied things up with a four-run third inning. The Warriors then tacked on a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to go up 8-5.
- Centre immediately got to work in the sixth inning. Lammers led off with a single, but then the next two batters flied out. Caroline Unrue was next and came up with a clutch double to place both Colonels in scoring position.
Myah Fletcher followed with a single that scored both Gold & White runners.
- After a fielding error at third moved Mashburn to first, Branin hit an RBI double that tied the game as
Madalyn Irwin came home.
- The 8-8 stalemate held until the bottom of the seventh when a three-RBI home run for Hendrix won the squad the second game of the day 11-8.
- Branin and Fletcher led the Centre team in hits with two each. Three different Colonels had multiple RBI for the Gold & White.
-
Ashley Howard pitched the full contest for Colonels. She struck out two batters in her time in the circle.
