DANVILLE, Ky. - Centre women's tennis made quick work of Berea College with a 7-0 sweep on Tuesday in a match that was originally scheduled for earlier in the season.
The first sweep of the season for the Colonels improved the team's record to 7-6. The Mountaineers fell to 1-10 on the year with the loss.
Two of Centre's doubles teams swept and the other just gave up one game. One of the sweeps featured Jaina Burkett and Skylar Keesee, paired for just the second time this season, taking a 6-0 win over Ti Meh and Angela Chen in second-seeded action. The first-ever pairing of Sara Dunn and Gigi Gossett was a 6-0 winner over Diliara Galiera and Anaiah Burton in the third spot.
Kayla Harger and Carrie Foster defeated Odreille Uwimana and Sophie Clapp in the no. 1 match 6-1.
Three Colonels swept in singles action. Sara Dunn, in her first game in the no. 1 position, locked down the first sweep of her collegiate career with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Clapp. Gossett saw her second singles action of the year and won 6-0, 6-0 over Galiera. Burkett, another Gold & White player in her second singles match of the year, swept Burton 6-0, 6-0.
Harger moved up to the second-seeded match for the first time this season and won 6-0, 6-1 over Uwimana. Sophie Maddux saw her first singles action of the year and win 6-4, 6-2 versus Meh in the no. 3 match. Keesee also saw her first singles play of 2025 on Tuesday and came out a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Chen as the four seed.
WRAPPING UP
The weekend returns Centre back to Southern Athletic Association competition. The Colonels will face Millsaps on Saturday, April 5 at 9 a.m. in Jackson, Miss.
