JACKSON, Miss. - Centre women's tennis earned a speedy win by decision thanks to a 4-0 thumping of Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps on Saturday morning.
The Colonels left Mississippi with an 8-6 overall record and a 2-1 SAA tally. The Majors dropped to 6-8 on the season and 1-2 in league action.
Centre scored two doubles wins en route to the doubles point.
Kennedy Herring and
Natalie Black improved to 5-4 as the top doubles duo for the Gold & White with a 6-2 win over Mary Dabadie and Mackenzie Vordick. The no. 3 team of
Carrie Foster and
Kayla Harger won 6-3 over Malakie Smith and Skylar Spinks to make their season record 5-2.
Grace Williams and
Carlie Mitchell fell 7-6 (7-5) in the second-seeded pairing to Riley McClain and Alexis Oliver that needed a tiebreaker.
Williams turned around and won her singles match in the no. 2 position. She moved to 9-4 on the year with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Vordick. Black earned her second SAA win of the year thanks to a 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-7) win over Oliver in the fourth-ranked contest.
Sara Dunn was the final winner for Centre as she took a 6-2, 6-3 win over Spinks in the no. 6 match.
The other three singles matches went unfinished in the match won by decision. Mitchell and Dabadie were tied 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) in the top contest, McClain led 7-5, 3-3 over Herring in the third-seeded match, and Foster was up 6-2, 2-3 over Segan Lister in the no. 5 ranked contest.
WRAPPING UP
A non-conference cancelation means the Colonels' next match will be at home. Centre hosts Oglethorpe on Saturday, April 12 at 9 a.m.
