DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball was on the wrong side of a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) doubleheader sweep versus Millsaps on Saturday afternoon.
The Colonels fell 10-0 in the first contest and 7-2 in the second.
GAME ONE: Millsaps 10, Centre 0
- The Majors built a commanding 10-0 lead by the end of the fifth inning. They had one run in the first, two runs in the second, and five in the third frame.
- Myah Fletcher had the first hit for the home team. She hit a double to left field with two outs on the board in the bottom of the fourth.
- The other hit for the Colonels came courtesy of an Emily Lammers single in the bottom of the fifth frame.
- Kennedy Caudill got the start on the scorecard, but Ashley Howard was the first hurler to see action for Centre. Howard went three innings and struck out two batters. Caudill and Katherine Weller each pitched one inning after Howard was pulled.
GAME TWO: Millsaps 7, Centre 2
- Millsaps built a quick 5-0 lead through the end of the top of the third.
- The Gold & White came alive in the bottom of the third frame. Cheney Floyd led off with a single and then moved to second on a bunt by Regan Brownley. The junior then scored on an error by the Majors' pitcher.
- Two more runs came across for the visitors in the top of the seventh.
- Centre fought hard to get back in the contest in the final frame. Floyd again led off with a single. After a ground out, Kira Mashburn earned a base hit to the shortstop and Aleiah Branin added a single of her own to score a pinch running Madalyn Irwin. Fletcher hit a single after that play, but a double play followed to end the contest.
- The Colonels had 10 hits. That marked the seventh time this season that the Gold & White had double digit hits in a contest. It is also the third SAA contest of 2025 where the Centre has had 10 or more hits.
- Madison Mullender was the starting pitcher for the Colonels. She went three innings and struck out one batter. Caudill went the final four frames and sat five down.
