SEWANEE, Tenn. – Centre softball fell in the rubber match to Sewanee 11-3 in the Colonels' final Southern Athletic Association (SAA) road trip of the 2025 regular season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-
Kira Mashburn opened the contest with a bang. The freshman led off with a double to center field. She then moved to third on a
Madalyn Irwin sacrifice bunt. A
Layne Ogle double followed and scored Mashburn.
- The Tigers put up three runs in the bottom of the first and then two more in the third frame to go up 5-1.
- A Sewanee error helped Centre in the fourth inning. With two runners in scoring position a fielding error at second brought
Caroline Unruh and
Cheney Floyd home to cut the lead to 5-3.
- Unfortunately for the Colonels, Sewanee brought six runs home over the last two innings to take an 11-3 run-rule win to end the series.
-
Kennedy Caudill was the first of three pitchers to take the circle for Centre. She went three innings and struck out two batters.
Katherine Weller was next and went for two frames and struck out one.
Ashley Howard was the final hurler and went one third of an inning with one strikeout.
