Softball drops two to Asbury

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre softball saw losses in a close contest and a lopsided affair in Wednesday's meeting versus Asbury on the Centre Softball Field.

The Colonels fell 3-2 in the first game and 12-2 in the second.

GAME ONE: Asbury 3, Centre 2

- A home run in the top of the first scored the first two runs of the day for the Eagles.
- In the bottom of the fourth, a Layne Ogle walk and singles from Emily Lammers and Cheney Floyd loaded the bases for Centre. Regan Brownley's RBI single score both Lammers and Ogle to tie the contest.
- Asbury answered back immediately and scored an RBI single in the top of the fifth to go up 3-2.
- The Colonels added one more hit, which was a Kira Mashburn single in the fifth, but ultimately lost 3-2.
- Madison Mullender pitched the first five innings for Centre. She struck out one batter. Kennedy Caudill went the final two frames and struck out one and allowed no runs and one hit.

GAME TWO: Asbury 12, Centre 2

- Things went sideways early for the Gold & White in the second contest. Asbury put up six runs in each of the first two innings to go up 12-0.
- Centre started to recover a little in the bottom of the second frame. With Lammers on Floyd via walks a Brownley single scored Lammers. A Mashburn single later scored Floyd.
- The rest of the game was scoreless for both teams. Three more hits came for the Colonels but no runners were able to find home in the 12-2 non-conference setback.
- Caudill was the starting pitcher for Centre and only saw two thirds of an inning of action. Katherine Weller was next and pitched one frame and struck out one. Ashley Howard finished the game in the circle and struck out five over five and one third innings of work
