MEMPHIS, Tenn.- On Sunday morning, the Colonels faced the Lynx in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) match-up. Although a close opening quarter, Rhodes trailed away to win by a score of 17-11.
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- The Lynx opened with two goals less than a minute apart to take an early lead.
Sophia Richardson answered with the Colonels' first goal but was quickly bettered by two additional points from Rhodes.
Midway through the quarter, Centre caught traction with a pair of goals to make it a one-point game entering the second period. Richardson claimed the first before
Haley Rice closed the frame with a woman-up goal.
- The Lynx created distance in the second quarter, outscoring the Colonels 5-2 in the 15 minutes. Rice scored Centre's first of two goals during a woman-up possession while
Elizabeth Mitchell closed the half's scoring, moving the score to 9-5, the Lynx favoring.
- The Colonels caught momentum in the second half, coming within two with a pair of unbroken goals that forced Rhodes to call a timeout. Rice opened the half's scoring on the arc while
Addie Lewis followed with an unassisted goal a minute later. Out of the timeout, the Lynx separated themselves with five unbroken goals to move the score to 14-7 entering the final 15 minutes of play.
- Richardson opened the fourth period's scoring and secured a hat trick. The Lynx tallied a pair of points before
Ellie Macdonald joined the scoring column with a free position goal, adding a second later in the period with the help of
Isa Stumpf. Richardson closed the game's scoring with a free position in the final 15 seconds, but at the end of regulation, the Lynx came out victorious with a final score of 17-11.
