3/1/2026 7:40:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Danville, KY - Centre Softball was back in action on Sunday against the same opponents from Saturday and ultimately came away with equal results.

Game 1 vs Olivet: Win 11-3 (5 innings)
The Colonels jumped on the Comets from the start and never looked back. Brinley Muller drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 1st and went to 3rd on a Rylee Sandifer double. Two batters later, Muller scored on a single to right by Emily Lammers to open the scoring. Morgan Tabor then laced a double into the right center gap to bring Sandifer and Lammers home and give Centre a 3-0 lead after 1.

Centre went right back to work in support of Sophia Lay in the bottom of the 2nd. Anna Huber reached and moved to second on consecutive Olivet errors to start the inning. Brinley Muller drew another walk and moved to second on a perfect bunt hit from Rylee Sandifer to load the bases with no outs. Layne Ogle was then hit by a pitch to score Huber for a 4-0 lead. After a passed ball made it 5-0, Lammers doubled to center to score Ogle and Sandifer for a 7-0 lead.

Olivet finally got to Lay for 2 runs in the top of the 4th, but the Colonel starter was able to leave two stranded to prevent further damage. The bats went back to work in the bottom of the inning. With 2 out, Jada Challiss started a rally with a single to center that moved pinch-runner Ava Petrino to 2nd. Anna Huber then singled to center to load the bases. Another Muller walk forced Petrino in for an 8-2 lead. With the bags still packed, Rylee Sandifer launched a bullet line drive to the wall in left center, bringing everyone home to put Centre up 11-2 after 4. Olivet got a run back in the top of the 5th but needed 2 to extend the game. Sophia Lay induced a weak pop-up behind home plate for the final out to secure Centre's 4th win of the season.

Brinley Muller led off for the first time in drew a walk in all 4 of her plate appearances. She scored 3 times. Rylee Sandifer batted 2nd and finished 3-4 with 3 RBI and 2 runs scored. Emily Lammers went 2-3 with the 3 RBI and a stolen base. Sophia Lay went the distance, needing just 80 pitches to pick up her second win of the season. Lay allowed 5 hits and 3 runs over the 5-inning game.

With the win, Centre has already matched its win total for the entire 2025 season.

Game 2 vs Asbury: Loss 5-0
Centre entered game 2 of the day with confidence, having scored 53 runs in its first 5 games of the season. The matchup against the Eagles proved an entirely different tale as Centre could not get the bats going. Layne Ogle singled in the bottom of the 1st but it was sandwiched between 2 fly outs, which proved an omen for the entire game.

Madison Mullender got the ball for the start and was strong through the first 2 innings, allowing just a leadoff single and tallying 2 strikeouts. The Eagles broke through in the 3rd with 3 consecutive hits to take a 1-0 lead. Centre continued to stay aggressive on offense with a number of early count swings but could not find landing spots for most. Brinley Muller singled in the bottom of the 3rd but was nailed on a steal attempt of 2nd to negate any threat in the inning. Mullender continued to do her part by working around 2 baserunners in the 4th to keep the game 1-0 in favor of the visitors.

Centre went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 4th as Asbury starter, Sidney Hansen, needed just 44 pitches to work through the front 4. The Eagles finally got to Mullender in the 5th. A single, wild pitch and double gave Asbury a 2-0 lead. Another single loaded the bases with 1 out and ended Mullender's day as she gave way to Katherine Weller. The Colonel reliever allowed a sac fly but then got a fly out to limit the damage as Asbury took a 3-0 lead. In the bottom of the 5th, Baylee Estes delivered a pinch-hit single to start the inning but went no further. A pop-up and 2 flyouts from Hansen kept the game the same heading to the 6th.

Asbury would add 2 more to its lead in the top of the 6th as 4 singles in a 5-batter span widened the lead and ended Weller's day. Kennedy Caudill came on in relief once more and struck out the final 2 in the inning to leave the bases loaded. The Centre bats showed promise to start the bottom of the inning. Singles from Muller and Sandifer were the best signs of life from the offense all game long. The hope was short-lived as 2 flyouts and a grounder kept the Colonels off the board. The story rang the same in the 7th as Centre fell 5-0 to drop to 4-2 on the season.

Madison Mullender (0-1) took the loss, having allowed 3 runs on 8 hits in 4.1 innings. Kennedy Caudill was brilliant in relief, striking out 4 of the 5 batter she faced. Asbury's Sidney Hansen (3-0) was the story though as she tossed a complete game, scattering 7 hits and inducing a stunning 15 flyouts out of 27 batters faced.

The Colonels are next in action on Sunday, March 8th in a doubleheader against Grace Christian University starting at 1:00pm at the Centre Softball Field.
