Danville, KY - For the second time in as many days, Centre Women's Tennis took on a familiar foe and came away as 5-2 winners. After knocking off Georgetown on Saturday, the Colonels returned home for a matchup against Transylvania.
The doubles action got off to a brilliant start for the Colonels as the #2 team of
Grace Williams and
Karenna Thurman cruised to a 6-1 win. #3 singles finished next but Centre was on the wrong end as
Sophie Maddux and
Emily Immordino were beaten, 1-6. It pushed the deciding team point back to the top and the #1 doubles team of
Natalie Black and
Kennedy Herring. With the point on the line, Black and Herring left no doubt as they rolled to a 6-1 win to give the Colonels the opening point heading into singles.
Grace Williams led off in #1 singles and again had little trouble with the Pioneers en route to a 6-2, 6-1 win to give the Colonels a 2-0 overall lead.
Kennedy Herring made it 3-0 in #2 singles via a 6-4, 6-0 win.
Natalie Black nearly had the clincher in 3rd doubles in the closest match of the day. Black won the opening set 6-3 and went to a tiebreak in the 2nd. She would lose the tiebreak 4-7 to force the match to a deciding 3rd set tiebreak. Transy would ultimately prevail 10-7 in the 3rd to get on the board.
The result merely delayed the inevitable as
Shelby Franklin clinched the day in #5 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Sara Dunn made it 5 for the Colonels after a 6-3, 6-4 win in #4 singles.
Skylar Keesee fell short in sixth singles, 3-6, 2-6.
The Colonels will next welcome the University of Olivet to Danville for a doubleheader next Sunday.
