The 1989 Centre men’s basketball team finished with a record of 24-7 and a perfect 10-0 mark in CAC play. The Colonels set program records in games played, points per game, field goal percentage, free throws made and attempted, free throw percentage and assists. The Colonels advanced to the Final Four with a pair of dramatic one-point wins at Alumni Gym, defeating Washington University 69-68 in the regional semifinal and defeating CSU-Stanislaus 124-123 in double overtime in one of the greatest games in NCAA history. 1989 marked the first time in Division III history that a men's and women's basketball program reached the Final Four in the same season.
