Norm Youtsey was another two-sport standout and yet another offensive lineman for the Colonels. Norm was a four-year letterman for the Praying Colonels and starter as a guard. While Norm labored in the trenches for the football Colonels for four years and most of the glory went to the backs who ran through the holes he opened, he was definitely in the spotlight on the diamond.
He was a star infielder and always one of the team leaders in both hitting and fielding. But Norm's exploits went beyond his talents with the bat and glove. He also possessed a strong pitching arm and developed into the "ace" pitcher for the team. As a senior in 1960, Norm had one of the best seasons ever for a Centre pitcher, and helped lead the Colonels to a 10-5 record. He pitched two shutout games and posted a 1.84 earned run average for the season, which is one of the lowest in Centre history. He represented Centre in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Star Baseball game.
