During his time with Centre men's soccer, Boyer was named as an NSCAA second Team All-American and NSCAA First Team Academic All-American, becoming the first and only player in program history to receive both All-American and Academic All-American honors in the same year. A three-time captain, Boyer was also a two-time First Team All-SCAC performer and three-time NSCAA All-Region selection. Boyer played in all 74 matches during his four-year career at Centre, starting in 68, and compiled a 54-16-4 record, the most wins by a graduating class under head coach Jeb Burch at the time. After graduation, Boyer spent three seasons at Centre as the full-time Assistant Men's Soccer Coach, helping guide the Colonels to two second place finishes in the SCAC, a berth in the inaugural SCAC Tournament Championship game, and a combined record of 38-16-6. During that time, he coached one D3soccer.com All-American and one NSCAA Academic All-American.

"Both Tanner and Adam played as hybrid central defenders with the freedom to go forward into the attack, something we rarely see in the game and it dawned on me why - it requires a really high soccer IQ, which both Tanner and Adam possessed," said Centre men's soccer head coach Jeb Burch '94. "Their All-American seasons have aged very well and stand out to me more and more with each year that passes. What they were doing as players and leaders was at a level we don't see very often."
