Jack C. (Teel) Bruner II excelled at Centre College both athletically and academically. As a junior and senior, he was a first team selection to the Kodak All-America and the GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-America squads in recognition of his exploits on the football field and in the classroom. A talented defensive back, Bruner earned four football letters at Centre, tied an NCAA record with five interceptions in a single game as a senior and was a three time All-College Athletic Conference choice. he captained the football team during his senior year and finished his career with 20 interceptions, 19 blocked passes, four fumble recoveries and one touchdown. After the 1985 season, his teammates chose him as their most valuable defensive back. He was also a three-year letterman in basketball. A standout academically, Bruner was named to the Dean's List seven times and graduated with a 3.91 grade point average. He was nominated for a Rhodes scholarship in 1986, won the National Leader of the Year award from Omicron Delta Kappa and was president of the Inter-Fraternity Council and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Bruner was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He went from Centre College to medical school and became a physician in Boise, Idaho.
