Earned four varsity letters in baseball and two in football as a quarterback.

In his very first CAC baseball game, Rall played right field, went 5-for-5 at the plate, scoring two runs and leading the Colonels to a 16-7 win over Southwestern at Memphis (now Rhodes College).   In his first year, Ed led the team in batting with a .375 average and was named to the all-conference team.  Not only was Ed an offensive threat, but he also quickly established himself as the team’s ace pitcher, often drawing the start against the team’s toughest opponents, which included Division I opponents such as the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University.  Also excelling at shortstop, Ed was again named to the all-conference team in both his sophomore and senior seasons.

After graduation, Ed accepted a teaching and coaching position at Boyle County High School, where he was recognized as the conference coach of the year by his peers and the area coach of the year by the Advocate-Messenger in both football and baseball.  In 1988, Ed returned to Centre as head baseball coach and assistant football coach.  His baseball teams compiled 221 wins, still ranking as the most for a Centre baseball coach and ranking as the sixth most wins by a head coach in the SCAC.  Ed also served as the College’s Sports Information Director.
