After transferring to Centre from Southern Methodist University in 1998, Gudeman made an immediate impact with the Centre men's soccer program, earning All-SCAC honors in all three of his seasons with the Colonels. A three-year starter at sweeper back, Gudeman ended his career with seven goals and 15 assists for 29 points. Serving as team captain for his final two seasons, Gudeman earned United States Soccer Coaches All-Region honors in both 1999 and 2000, and was named an NSCAA/Adidas Division III All-American in 1999. Gudeman was recognized as one of the best players in SCAC history in 2006 when the conference named him to its 15th anniversary team.

"Both Tanner and Adam played as hybrid central defenders with the freedom to go forward into the attack, something we rarely see in the game and it dawned on me why - it requires a really high soccer IQ, which both Tanner and Adam possessed," said Centre men's soccer head coach Jeb Burch '94. "Their All-American seasons have aged very well and stand out to me more and more with each year that passes. What they were doing as players and leaders was at a level we don't see very often."
