The most decorated men's diver in Centre history, Schulten earned All-America honors for both 1m and 3m diving. During his time at Centre, Schulten picked up three 3-meter conference titles over his career (2004, 2006 and 2007) and two 1-meter championships (2004 and 2006). At the NCAA Championship, Schulten was a two-time Honorable Mention all-American (2005 and 2006) on the 3m board and earned HM all-American recognition once (2006) on the 1m board. He earned SCAC Diver-of-the-Year honors three times (2004, 2006 and 2007). He was also selected to the SCAC's 30th anniversary squad in 2021. His 725 career points earned are the most ever by a Centre men's diver, and he still holds the program record for scoring in a 3m diving competition with an SCAC Championship performance of 515.6 points at the 2007 conference finals.

"Dustin was a bit of a pioneer for us," said Dean Brownley, head swimming & diving coach at Centre. "When he came to the program our numbers were low and we didn't have any divers. He made NCAA Championships his first year and really helped put Centre back on the map from a national level in swimming and diving. Since Centre Dustin has been coaching diving at Louisville's Saint Xavier High School where they have won numerous state championships and was on the coaching staff that was a part of the high school national championship team as well. Dustin was a hard worker with a great attitude. He didn't change many of his dives like some athletes do instead his mentality was he was just going to perfect the ones that he was already good at. He was a joy to coach."
