Emily Bachert, Class of 2012. One of the themes of this year’s Hall of Fame class is athletes who helped “put their programs on the map,” and this certainly holds true for Emily and Centre women’s golf. Her accolades speak for themselves and are as impressive of a list as any Hall of Fame inductee in history.

From 2009 to 2012, Emily was All-SCAC, All-Great Lakes Region, and All-American. In three of those years, she was named to the NGCA All-America Scholar team for Division III. In 2010, Emily was named a CoSIDA Academic All-American. In 2009, this first ballot Hall of Famer was the first Centre women’s golfer to qualify for the NCAA Championships, something she did all four of her years. At the NCAA Championships, she tied for fourth place as a freshman, finished seventh as a sophomore, and then posted consecutive national runner-up finishes as a junior and senior.

For the better part of her final two seasons at Centre, Emily was the number one ranked player in Division III. She led the nation in fairways hit, subpar strokes per round, birdies, par 4 scoring average, greens in regulation, and was a three-time Division III statistical champion in par 3 scoring average. As a senior, Emily set an SCAC record for lowest three-day score in a conference tournament at 228 as she earned tournament medalist honors and the Colonels cruised to a conference title in their final year in the SCAC. That team went on to post a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships, the best postseason finish ever by a Centre golf team.

Emily Bachert’s career marks still hold up – as her name appears 48 times in the Centre women’s golf record book. Her 153 birdies are tied for the most in a career. The most impressive statistic on her career resume is this: in 46 career tournaments, Emily won 19 times. No other Centre player has more than six career wins. Emily Bachert won 41 percent of the tournaments she played.

Upon graduating from Centre, Emily attended the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, where she got her MD in 2016. She completed her Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Residency from the University of Kentucky in 2020 and a Breast Pathology Fellowship at Harvard Medical School in 2021. She currently serves as assistant professor and chief of breast pathology at the University of Kentucky.
