Burger burst onto the scene for Centre volleyball with a rookie year for the ages in 2004, as she was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American, the first such honor in program history, while also taking home SCAC Freshman of the Year honors. She was named to the All-SCAC team in all four of her seasons at Centre, making First Team in 2005 and 2007, and Second Team in 2004 and 2006. Her 28 kills against Millsaps in 2007 are the second most in a four-set match and the top 20 in any match in conference history. She finished her career with 2,188 kills, by far the most ever in program history and second most in SCAC history. Burger also ranks first at Centre and fourth in SAA history with 4.08 kills per set during her career and was named to the SCAC 30th Anniversary Team in 2021.

"Sarah clearly deserves to be in the Hall of Fame at Centre, as her stats, records, and awards speak for themselves," said James Neyhouse, who coached Burger from 2005-07. "And anyone who has met her knows how kind, intelligent, and sincere she is, making her a great friend and teammate.  However, I would be remiss if I did not mention her one clear flaw; that she was a sophomore when I was hired as Centre's coach, depriving me of the honor of getting to coach her all four years."
